He must have heard about the shooting and come to rub it in. Most of the other cops on the Lakeview PDactually, all of the cops except D.J. and Louwere friends with Rich. He owned a firearms and ammunition store nearby and provided great deals to officers of the law. He had gotten the police business because of D.J. and her father's influence, but since D.J. and Rich were no longer married Rich took delight in furthering his friendships with the other cops. His macho attitude won him friends in D.J.'s world, and his tales of their relationship increased her image as "Officer Ice." |

Rich had taken the divorce to heart and now detested D.J. with all the passion he'd lacked in their marriage. D.J. couldn't lay all the blame on Rich. She'd married him because she'd wanted a companion, someone to share her life with, someone who could keep the loneliness hunting her in the night at bay. But D.J. had never been able to deal with strong emotions, her own or other people's. That flaw in her character had netted her several meetings with the police psychologist, meetings she would soon be attending again; the Lakeview PD required mandatory counseling following a shooting. |
